"Caring and Commitment in Action"

Operation Gift Box

Operation Gift Box has been a project of the Assistance League® since 2007. Since that time, over 2000 gift boxes have been distributed through the project to the senior shut-ins served by the Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging (“FMAAA”)! This past year, we have provided over 500 boxes to the FMAAA. This project is a wonderful way to provide individual care packages to house-bound senior citizens during the holiday season. In 2010 the project expanded, so now senior citizen victims of elder abuse also receive gift boxes through the Fresno County Sheriffs Department, working in conjunction with the local division of Adult Protective Services, as needed in our local community throughout the year!

Each year our recipient organizations provide a list of approved items that can be included in the gift boxes. These items might include:  toothbrushes, hand creams, word puzzles, mugs, pens, instant oatmeal, hot chocolate, granola bars, etc. Then the Assistance League®, with the support of the Assisteens®, use their unique imagination and talents to make each and every gift box heartfelt and special.  Since 2007 this project has grown in size, so that the initial distribution of 260 boxes in 2007 has more than doubled – with 605 boxes distributed to local seniors during the holidays!

The Assistance League® hopes that this worthwhile project continues to grow in the future, so that more senior community members can be assured that someone is thinking of them during the holidays and in their time of need.  In addition to the personal items found in each box, the Assistance League® is sure that each care package also provides a small measure of happiness!
